YRHA Hosts Second Affiliate Circuit Show

The warmth was a welcome change at the second YRHA show held July 8 - 10. Considering hypothermia was the biggest rider concern at the first show, eighty-some degrees felt alright. Even though we had snow on the peaks earlier in the week, we felt right at home with a dry and dusty track here at the 5000’ level. Finally, summer is here!

NRHA judge, Joe Hayes, of “Gainsvull,” TX, officiated. (Yep, that’s how he pronounces "Gainesville!") The scores were consistent and he paid you for a beautiful ride. There were a number of classes won with a 72.5, one with a 73.5, but only two with a 74.

The first high score was in the Open class late Friday afternoon. Jarrod Grieve drew first and wowed the audience with a beautiful ride on Smart Like Jazz owned by G. Patrick and Theresa Shea, scoring a 73.5. The bar was set. Bill Campbell drew second from last riding his own stallion, Elans Holibar. The powerful sorrel stud flowed through the pattern effortlessly. The result was a 74 winning the Open and Intermediate Open classes along with a Morrison bronze and a pewter. Elans Holibar was purchased from a client of the Campbell’s while he was in training with them as a two year old. The seven year old stallion is by Elans Playboy and out of Ms Holibar Three, a daughter of Holidoc.

The second high score of the show was in the Non Pro class. The competition in this class is as tough as it gets. You’ll have mothers and daughters, mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law and lots of the very best friends all trying their very hardest to win. When it was all said and done, Stephanie Anderson topped them all with an amazing run on her new mare, RR Tiz Star Time. The mare is by RR Star and out of Deanes Nic Of Time, a daughter of Reminic.

The Yellowstone Slide II was also a MRHA and CSRHA approved show with riders from all over taking part in all three affiliate circuits. The MRHA Youth were on hand and took advantage of some Friday evening down time to hold a youth fundraising “Egg and Spoon” race. Around twenty horse/rider competitors entered with some riding bareback with halters while others were in saddles and bridles.

You would think they were riding for a year end trophy saddle! As the competition became more difficult, riders dropped out like flies leaving three left to fight to the end:  Jarrod Grieve, Darra Norgaard and Emily Plant. The judges had a hard time eliminating any one of them until they were asked to lope down the arena and do a sliding stop. This finally eliminated Darra and Jarrod leaving Emily Plant riding her mother's horse, Prince Harry, the proud winners of this cut-throat competition.

We would like to thank the generous YRHA sponsors who help to fund the three shows. Without them we would be afoot so to speak. Thanks to the YRHA show committee, Mike Carlson, Jan Anderson, Chandra Morris and Wendy Deans. They work twelve months of the year to put on the shows. Thanks to our judge Joe Hayes, Mike Carlson, our show manager and drag master, Jay Dee and Jan Anderson for the use of their wonderful facility and all their hard work before, during and after the show, Jan Anderson our NRHA show representative, Strong and Bradley for the use of one big, beautiful John Deere tractor, Crazy Mountain Catering for keeping our bellies full of fantastic food, our announcer Missy Cashman, the many gate people and scribes, our show secretary Betty Mayer, and to MRHA and CSRHA for using this show for their affiliate circuit.
