NRHA Mountain Region Affiliate Championship Finals Goes Mile High

DENVER - The Western International reining festival announces the lucrative event, including the NRHA Mountain Region Affiliate Championship Finals, will give away more than $200,000 at the 2006 inaugural event. The Western International runds October 17-22 at the National Western Complex in Denver.

Western International will offer more than $16,000 in combined added money for the Affiliiate Finals and corresponding ancillary classes.  With the anticipated return on entry fees, the Western International total purse will be very rewarding.

In addition to the Mountain Affiliate Finals, the six day event includes the marquee event, the FEI World Reining Masters Finals, a $10,000 Mile High Derby, $50,000 Stallion Select Futurity adn $10,000 Challenger's Cup Freestyle Reining, as well as a western trade show and historical exhibit.  As a part of the international competition, organizers anticipate 500 horses from 28 countries to compete for six days at the Western International.  The event is expected to draw up to 30,000 attendees, including as many as 3000 international guests.

Reining is the fastest growing equestrian sport in the world, and is under consideration to be included as the fourth equestrian discipline in the Olympic Games, along with stadium show jumping, dressage and three-day eventing.  The Western International was established in an effort to push reining towards becoming the first western Olympic discipline.
