Shawn Flarida Clinic - March 28-29...

The Yellowstone Reining Horse Association proudly presented a two day Shawn Flarida clinic on March 28 & 29 in Wilsall, Montana at Anderson Training Stables. The four time NRHA Futurity Champion shared his successful program with 12 attentive riders and many spectators from around the region.

The majority of his focus over the two days was how to get your horse shown. How to fix various issues so that you can drop your hand, show a greater degree of difficulty and get your horse shown successfully.

Although he spent a lot of time working on the turn around with the riders and a fair amount of time on the circles, he himself spends 80% of his time on the stop. He says it’s a personal thing for him, it’s just something that he happens to focus on.

He started out each day discussing our personal goals for the year. He couldn’t emphasize the importance of goals enough and kept coming back to each person’s goals while they were riding. He really encouraged each rider to push past their comfort zone, to reach beyond what they were comfortable doing in order to meet their goals. Whether it be simply riding faster in the large fast or the run down or making the finals in the Open or Non Pro Futurity. Set goals and strive to meet them.

Unfortunately for Shawn, we offered him nothing but very cold weather and at times he was dreaming of being in Hawaii. He never let the riders down though and kept a cheerful and humorous attitude the whole time. It was a rare opportunity to share two days with a trainer of this caliber.
